Venus at the Belly Chakra

Our ancient ancestors used the sky as their life map.

By watching the cycles of the stars and planets, they could anticipate the rhythms of life on Earth.

This was their technology.

Their way of knowing that what was happening above was also happening below

As they studied the stars and planets, they wove meaning into them. They told stories, created archetypes, and birthed myth as a sacred mirror.

Myth was how they embodied what they saw in the sky. The cycles of descent, rebirth, union and transformation were written into story so their movements could be a guide and teacher.

The oldest story we know is the Sumerian myth of Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth, and her descent into the underworld. This ancient story overlays perfectly with the Venus Cycle ~ a 19-month rhythm that still maps our own journey of release, remembrance, and rebirth.

The Venus–Inanna Overlay

In cosmology, Venus’ 19-month cycle is not random. As she disappears, descends, and re-emerges, she mirrors Inanna’s passage through the underworld. Each time Venus meets the Moon in her Morning Star phases, Inanna passes through one of the seven gates, removing a vestment of power.

These gates are chakra gates, living initiations. Each one asks us to release an old pattern, so a truer way of being can emerge.

And now, Venus meets the Moon at the Sixth Gate of Creativity (the Belly Chakra).

The Sixth Gate of Creativity

At this gate, Inanna removes her ankle bracelets.

This act symbolizes her release of shame, self-doubt, and the ways she has been disconnected from her sensuality, pleasure, and creative flow. It is a stripping away of distorted relationships with sexuality, play and desire.

The Belly Chakra (also known as the Sacral Chakra, Svadhisthana, meaning “sweetness”) is the womb-space of creation. It lives just below the navel and governs our capacity for pleasure, play, creativity, sensuality, sexuality and flow.

When this center is alive, you can feel:

  • juicy in movement

  • inspired to create easily

  • connected to the rhythm of life

  • pleasure as sacred nourishment

When it is blocked, you may feel:

  • ashamed of your desires

  • dried out in your creativity

  • afraid to fully express who you are

  • silenced in your playfulness

  • abandoned in your sensuality

This is why the Sixth Gate matters: it is a cosmic checkpoint, a mirror that invites us to ask what we’re holding onto and what wants to be released so we can live more freely, sweetly, and fully embodied.

Soul Inquiries for the Sixth Gate

As Venus and Inanna move through this threshold, reflect on these questions:

  • Where am I still holding shame around my body, my desires, or my creativity?

  • What am I ready to release so that more flow, pleasure, and vitality can move through me?

  • In what ways have I silenced or abandoned my sensuality — and how is she asking to be reclaimed?

  • What would it feel like to create, play, and express myself with total freedom, without apology or perfection?

A Ritual for Release and Flow

To honor this gate within you, place your hands on your lower belly. Close your eyes and breathe deeply into this space, imagining orange-gold light expanding with each inhale.

Then put on a song that makes your body want to move. Begin to make slow, gentle hip circles.

As women, we hold so much in our hips (our emotions, our grief, our unspoken stories). Hip circles are a way to unlock and release this energy, alchemizing it into flow, pleasure, and creative power.

Imagine your hips drawing spirals of eight - offering you release and renewal. Let your body lead, flowing, swaying, moving however she desires.

As you move, whisper aloud:
“I honor my creativity.
I release shame and self-doubt.
I flow with pleasure and possibility.”

Walking the Venus Cycle as Ceremony

One of the reasons I love tracking the Venus Cycle is that it turns life into living ceremony. Each month, as Venus meets the Moon at a new gate, we are invited to pause, reflect, and realign with what is true.

When we live in relationship with Venus’ rhythm, we begin to see our own lives as sacred, cyclical, and full of possibility. Each gate is a checkpoint. Each one is a mirror. Each one invites us to shed what no longer serves, so we can rise freer, more creative, and more alive.

The Medicine of the Sixth Gate

The Sixth Gate reminds us: our creativity, our sensuality, our very desires are not frivolous. They are holy. They are sacred. They are the lifeblood of our feminine essence.

As Venus and Inanna move through this threshold, may you release the weight of shame. May you remember the sweetness of your body. May you delight in the truth that you are already fertile with possibility.
